Are you passionate about European financial regulation - and about building a fintech scale-up?
We usually respond within a week
Are you passionate about financial regulation - and keen on ensuring compliance with international regulation as we expand our fast-growing financial startup?
Then take a look at this opportunity!
What is the role about?
As a Compliance Manager in Januar - with a focus on European markets - you'll get to apply your extensive experience in financial regulation and communication in writing license applications for all the licenses we will need in the future. You'll communicate with Danish and European FSAs and ensure continued compliance with new regulation relevant to the licenses we have.
Currently, we hold a Payment Institute License from the Danish FSA and are looking into which European licenses to apply for over the coming year.
You will report to our CRCO, working closely with our AML Compliance Manager, our lawyers, and our Head of Legal.
What’s in it for you?
- You’ll have the opportunity to join a “rocket” in the Copenhagen fintech space, driving the crypto revolution in Denmark and beyond.
- You’ll get an opportunity to become an expert in European (UK & Swiss included) payment and crypto law and license application processes.
- You’ll play a key role in the company leading the license application machine we need, to ensure having the right licenses will not become a bottleneck for our growth.
What is Januar?
Our mission is to build the gateway between crypto and fiat. Currently, we're building a platform that bridges innovative crypto businesses with financial institutions, and we recently launched our first product, which gives our customers - mostly cryptocurrency businesses - access to payment accounts.
We base our business on trust and transparency, as well as solid expertise and experience in finance and crypto.
Founded in 2021 by a group of crypto veterans, we now count 30+ employees, who work from our office in Christianshavn and/or from home as preferred.
Why join Januar?
As part of the team in Januar, you'll get...
- A career in one of the most exciting crypto-finance startups in the Nordics
- Challenging and rewarding assignments that have real impact
- Salary according to qualifications and experience
- Best-in-class training in cryptocurrencies
- A stake in the company via warrants
- Significant flexibility at work
- Private health insurance
- Learning activities and social events - you’re welcome to arrange some, too!
Your responsibilities
Your responsibilities will be broad and varied, spanning the areas listed below.
We do have some of the competencies on the team to support in certain areas, but you will be expected to both lead the license applications and be responsible for Januar staying compliant with non-Danish regulation.
License Applications
- You'll be responsible for all aspects of Januar’s license applications, including:
- Find and manage international lawyers to support you with country specific details about applications and application processes in their country.
- Communicate with FSAs as part of managing the application process.
- Write applications including collection and compliance/quality assessment of documents.
Inspections & Audits
- Support the CRCO in preparing the company for FSA inspections and external compliance audits.
- Support the CRCO in answering Requests for information.
- Stay up-to-date on new regulations relevant to Januar.
- Write consultation responses to new regulations.
Compliance Self Assessment
- Support our annual review of Policies, Guidelines and Procedures (PGP) to ensure that Januar is compliant.
- Review PGP documents to ensure compliance when new regulation is implemented.
- Maintain and update PGP documents owned by Risk & Compliance.
What will you need to succeed in this role?
In order to thrive and perform in this role, we expect you to have:
- 3+ years of experience in a financial institution or with an FSA
- Hands-on experience sending or reviewing financial license applications.
- A law or business law degree.
- Fluency in English (competencies in other European languages is a plus, especially French and German)
- Strong experience working with Financial regulation (experience with PSD2, Danish Payments Act or crypto law is a plus)
- A knack for working on both important and urgent issues as well as long-term strategic matters.
- You must be self-driven and have a desire to stay updated on current and future international finance and crypto regulation.
It is a requirement that you have a valid Danish work permit and live in Denmark (or are willing to move at your own cost).
It is furthermore a requirement that you can present a clean criminal record.
How to apply
We suggest applying as soon as possible, as we continuously evaluate incoming applications.
Ideally, you’ll be able to start on July 1st, but we can accommodate earlier or later start dates as well.
If you are eager to get on board, please send us your CV in English. You don’t need to spend time writing a long cover letter - rather, we would like to talk to you! We invite suitable candidates for a brief initial call with our CRCO, and we look forward to exchanging input and questions that will allow us both to assess whether it is the right match.
In case of questions, please reach out to Marcus Mølleskov, Chief Risk & Compliance Officer (CRCO), at marcus@januar.com (please do not send your CV per email due to GDPR restrictions).
