What is Januar?
Januar is a Danish Payment Institution, regulated by the Danish FSA. We are founded by a group of crypto veterans and we now count +30 employees. Our mission is clear, we want to be the #1 crypto gate for European crypto businesses.
We are well-funded to reach this mission, with our recently secured seed round from a consortium of international VC (EUR 6m).
We are looking for a Head of HR that is ready to take on the responsibility of building our HR department geared towards Januar’s growth. This entails working with HR on a strategic and operational level, as well as the opportunity to build and develop our HR department.
What is this role about?
Your core responsibility will be to build an HR function and play a key role in ensuring a smooth and compliant growth of our organization. You will be reporting to our COO, working closely with our Head of People & Culture and our Head of Legal.
You must be self-driven and have a vision for how to build HR from A-Z in an efficient manner - in line with our culture and the characteristics of our business. To succeed in this, we expect you’ll benefit from having 5-7 years of hands-on experience in a similar role.

Your responsibilities
Key tasks and responsibilities:
Legal
- Being the expert on HR legislation and labor law in Denmark and other European countries
- Handle employment contracts and addenda in collaboration with Head of Legal
Employee life cycle
- Execute on the full employee life cycle
- Develop employee benefits and facilitate the implementation and management of them
- Develop and keep guidelines and tools up-to-date, e.g. Employee Handbook.
Operational
- HR reporting and administration in general (e.g. to management, authorities, etc.)
Recruitment
- Januar is expecting to double the number of employees this year. You must be able to plan and execute the full hiring process in collaboration with the hiring manager and our People & Culture team (job posts, screening, interview, compensation package, onboarding, etc.)
- Contribute to the strategic growth journey of Januar
Payroll
- Manage salaries and payroll in collaboration with Finance
- Own the Zenegy platform (HR platform for employee data, payroll, holiday, absence, benefits, and other administration)
- Handle reimbursements (e.g. parental leave, sickness, etc.)
Before applying, please consider whether you are intrigued by all of these tasks. We do have some of the competencies on the team to support in certain areas, but you will be expected to both lead the overall HR strategy and handle the administrative and operational HR tasks.
Qualifications
In order to thrive and perform in this role, we expect you to have
- A business degree within HR and Organization.
- Expertise in Danish HR legislation and labor law.
- Fluency in Danish and English.
- Strong experience working with HR strategy and operations in an international matrix organization.
- A knack for working on both important and urgent issues as well as long-term strategic matters.
For our employees, you’ll be the go-to-person for any HR-related questions. Thus, we expect you to be solution-oriented and service-minded in order to deliver top-of-the-range in-house services.
You need to either have or be able to develop an extrovert approach to the job and the people in Januar, as you are expected to reach out and drive projects in collaboration with all departments.
It is a requirement that you have a valid Danish work permit and live in Denmark (or are willing to move at your own cost).
It is also a requirement that you can present a clean criminal record.
