Januar is a young company, officially founded in January 2021. We have a unique set of experienced people from diverse industries all coming together to grow Januar, into the unicorn everyone is dreaming of.

The Position & Why we need you!

As a Product Owner at Januar, you will support the Head of Product, Jens Warnez, who is your direct manager. You will be part of a dual-track agile team in which you take ownership of Product Delivery, while a colleague takes ownership of Product Discovery.

The Product Delivery role is primarily internal-facing towards our Tech team, but will also manage relationships with other internal departments and external partners. 

As our first Product Owner, you will focus on our fiat account product offering. A dedicated PO position may open at a later point to expand our product offering within crypto related solutions. We strongly encourage you to apply if you have a strong background from the crypto industry, even if you have little or no experience in traditional finance. Should you have a mixture of PM/PO skills, consider applying for both positions and elaborate on your full range skills as we may also consider mixed profiles.

Januar has a Payment Institute Licence with the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority, enabling us to set up relationships with banks to integrate their infrastructure with Januar’s products and services. By the time you start, Januar will have launched its MVP, which will provide crypto companies with access to the multicurrency IBAN payment accounts. Crypto companies can use these accounts to collect and disburse payment from/to their own customer base.

Your mission is to work together with the tech team and other stakeholders to deliver carefully selected value-adding functionalities, focused on fiat, so that crypto companies can integrate their fiat and crypto financial flows better, faster and cheaper!

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • In charge of delivering new product functionality in collaboration with other delivery teams like tech backend, tech frontend, design, UI, and UX. If anybody at Januar has an implementation question involving Product, you'll be the go-to person!
  • Represent product towards other delivery teams:
    • Join daily meetings with tech and other delivery teams as needed.
    • Break down problems and devise solutions together.
    • Implement measuring & reporting of success criteria of new product functionality.
    • Prioritise bug fixing & feature development.
    • Answer product questions.
    • Product acceptance of delivery work.
  • Participate in daily product stand-ups to coordinate and share updates.
  • Relay work effort time estimations to the Product team for improved prioritization and planning of capabilities and features.
  • In collaboration with a Discovery-focused product colleague, you define features and user stories to a level appropriate for other delivery teams.
  • You are in charge of product-related partnerships. Meaning that you contribute to evaluating third-party providers, related integration work, and can own the relationship.
  • Ensure that Operations is always ready to handle newly deployed product functionality by providing the necessary documentation and training.
  • Process input from Risk & Legal, and ensure the product is compliant within reasonable expectations.

What you bring to the table to be succesful

  • At least 2 years' experience in a delivery-focused Product or software engineering role with proven success.
  • Used to interacting with a tech team on a daily basis.
  • You have the level of tech savviness needed to understand the complexity and effort needed for delivery teams to ship a solution. You don’t need to have a past life in COBOL coding (pun intended), but a learning mindset with a focus on tech and finance is needed to succeed.
  • You are able to focus on the “how” questions of product delivery. Therefore, a background in crypto, fiat payments, or the general finance industry is a plus.
  • Detailed knowledge about PSD2, Open Banking, Payment Rails, Payment APIs and related movement of funds between different financial institutions is a very big plus.
  • Knowledge about Product Analytics, software development, UI, UX, and Wireframing are a big plus.
  • Communication skills involving external and internal stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm about the crypto finance products we are going to build!
  • Time management and prioritization skills.
  • Openness and transparency about the work you do and knowledge you acquire, sharing is caring ;-)
  • You like to own responsibilities and stand accountable for them.
  • A growth mindset with eagerness to learn.
  • Fluency in Danish and other languages are a plus.
  • You live in Copenhagen or are willing to relocate.
  • A healthy dose of humour.

Your first steps

In the first weeks, you will learn about Januar and the industry we operate in, this includes getting to know different delivery teams and the current product roadmap. In the first month, you are expected to collaborate with the Head of Product and align with different delivery teams to shape your future work. During this time you will also align and define career milestones for upcoming months.
